The 23rd annual Motor City Roundball Classic sponsored by UAW-Ford is Michigan’s largest and longest running high school basketball event providing a competitive platform for nearly 50 teams across the Midwest.  Detroit Renaissance was a hot destination between December 27th and 30th as fans braved the frigid temperatures to see many of the region’s top players and players.  Here’s are the All-Motor City Roundball Classic teams:

First Team:

  • 6’1” senior point guard Brandon Wade (Ann Arbor Skyline, MI.) 23 points *captain
  • 6’5” senior forward Nelson McCauley (Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills, MI.) 32 points
  • 6’2” senior combo guard Carl Bow, jr. (Hazel Park, MI.) 26 points
  • 6’3” sophomore point guard Ryan Rollins (Macomb Dakota, MI.) 36 points
  • 5’10” sophomore point guard Wendell Green, jr. (Detroit Country Day, MI.) 32 points

Second Team:

  • 6’5” senior forward Luke Pfromm (Warren DeLaSalle, MI.) Games of 25 and 19 points *captain
  • 6’7” senior center Daiyon Taylor (Detroit Osborn, MI.) 24 points and 10 rebounds
  • 6’2” sophomore combo guard Jarvis Walker III (Muskegon Mona Shores, MI.) 39 points
  • 6’3” senior shooting guard Ben Davidson (St. Clair, MI.) 29 points
  • 6’ senior point guard Terrance Williams (Wayne Memorial, MI.) 19 points

Third Team:

  • 6’6” senior power forward Randy Gilbert (Detroit Cass Tech, MI.) 15 points and 7 rebounds *captain
  • 6’3” senior shooting guard Anthony Roberts (Detroit Henry Ford, MI.) 18 points  
  • 5’11” senior point guard Ron Hill (Detroit Pershing, MI.) 27 points
  • 5’10” junior shooting guard Cameron McEvans (Southfield A & T, MI.) Games of 36 and 14 points
  • 6’8” senior center Cass Phillips (White Lake Lakeland, MI.) 17 points and 9 rebounds

Inside the Numbers

  • 16 of the 27 games were decided by 10 points or less
  • The average margin of victory was 11.1 points per game
  • The 23rd annual Motor City Roundball Classic started and ended with overtime games, Detroit Osborn held on to beat Southfield A&T, 76-74, and Ann Arbor Huron ended the four-day event with a 63-61 win over Detroit Renaissance.
  • Teams from Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio participated with Gaylord (MI.) traveling furthest from the North, Cincinnati Withrow (OH.) from the South, Michigan City (IN.) from the West, and Columbus Eastmoor Academy to the East
